Sunrise.

This is the same tree from my painting, “Mother.” This time the graceful mother tree stands alone, with no human visitors at this time. All night long, the stars have been moving across the sky over this hilltop.

Now, the tree is back-lit by a bright sun rising into a clear blue sky. The light from the sun is expanding across the sky, the last few visible stars about to blink out.

The tree is limned in white, where the sunlight touches its surface and makes it glow.

The ground rushes downward around the tree, the furrowed shadows and trails of sunlight showing the contours of the bumpy hill.

You can see here how the colors show up differently under different lighting.
