Here is “Jungle Lace.”
I took the reference photo for this painting while hiking the beautiful Manoa Falls trail on the island of Oahu this past winter:
I was inspired by the bits of light poking through the lacy holes in the leaves, likely nibbled by caterpillars to create this effect. It’s like an elegant parasol overhead!
I used artistic license to make the image colorful, incorporating gold and magenta throughout.
The edges of the canvas are 2.5″ deep, making this painting three-dimensional.
The bright sunlight falls on the trees in the background, highlighting the thick tangle of tree trunks and branches.
Some of the leaves are filled with a blue light.
The many delicate holes are irregular shapes and sizes, creating the effect of a randomly-created lace.
