Crescent Moon. 8" x 10", Oil on Canvas, Harvest Moon. 16" x 20", Oil on Canvas, © Cedar Lee 2013
This painting, called Crescent Moon, features another fall tree.
Thick clouds are moving in across the sky from the left, but in this moment, the moon shines down from a bright, clear patch in the sky.
I find it particularly pleasing the way the moon hangs directly above the center of the thick, twisting tree. It reminds me of moments I’ve witnessed when the moon lines up perfectly in some way with the landscape I’m in–framed in the negative space between tree branches, or directly above the point of a distant mountain right at moonrise. These moments can never fully be captured with a camera.
