This painting is called “Eclipse in an Ancient Land.” I love the misty veil of atmosphere that gives way to the depth of space, and the way the enormous clouds are slowly rolling through the sky. The colors of the sky are reflected in the hills below, giving a dreamy feeling to the scene. Ah! I just wish I could be there in this place, in this moment.

And this is “Eclipse Over Watchful Forest.” It seemed to me that the trees were active witnesses to this event. It’s not the first time I’ve felt that the trees in the foreground of one of my paintings are vibrating with energy as they interact with the action in the sky above. This sky is full of graceful movement and dramatic warm colors.

Both of these paintings are oil colors on 2″-deep wood panels. The paintings continue onto the deep edges, so the whole image protrudes dramatically from the wall, giving the art a real presence in the space.
