My policy on photos

When painting from photos, the most important factor to a successful painting is clear, high-resolution reference photos. Close-up photos that show the subject's face taken in natural sunlight will work best. If you have digital photos you may email them to me. If you only have print photos, I will take them to use as reference material and I will return them safely to you when I am done with them.

I don't require photos to be any specific size or resolution, but as a general rule, with photos of people or animals, you should be able to zoom in and see small details like reflections in the eyes.

In many cases I can use a photo that doesn't meet these standards, but use common sense. If it's a blurry snapshot taken in poor lighting, you can bet it is not a good reference for a painting.

If you're not sure if a photo is useable or not, just ask!

One thing to keep in mind: I never violate anybody's copyright, so if the photo you'd like to use as a reference is not yours, you must get written permission for me to use it.

Starting with a good photo will guarantee a beautiful painting!
